Homework Activity 1: Read and Write
Dear Students,
Welcome to 7th grade! This is going to be a fun and exciting year for all of us and we look forward to getting to know each of you. Being the first day of school, we are sure there are many positive and negative thoughts and preconceptions running through your mind, which brings us to the primary purpose of this assignment. We would like for you to take some time to reflect on those thoughts and preconceptions and how they may affect you this year.
Using the letter format that is modeled in this letter, you will write a letter to yourself! Your letter will consist of at least three paragraphs. The first paragraph will be your introductory paragraph and will describe how you are feeling today…….Sleepy? Anxious? Excited? Why do you feel that way? Please support your thoughts with plenty of detail. In the second paragraph you will discuss your expectations for this class during this school year. You may want to write about any first impressions of Mr. Pacheco, their classroom as you entered, and/or about what you expect to learn in math this year. Finally, in the third paragraph, you will conclude by setting at least three math goals for yourself this year. The goals you set should be realistic and attainable, yet not too easy. In setting your goals, please keep in mind the things you would like to accomplish or improve upon this year and the steps needed to accomplish your goals. Having a roadmap to a desired place will help you succeed! Most importantly, close the letter with your signature.
When writing this letter, make sure you use complete sentence structures, correct grammar and punctuation. As always, anticipate giving your personal best! When you have neatly completed and revised the written portion of your letter, you may illustrate your thoughts by decorating it with borders and background pictures. Use your imagination and have fun! Once you have completed the decorative part of the letter you will need to address the envelope to yourself. The envelope will have your first and last name, address, city & state, and zip code.
Sincerely,
Mr. Pacheco
